it’s that goddamn creative class
they’re leaving us high and dry
could they be bored
or minimally more adored
if they apply their talents elsewhere

intellectually strapped and disillusioned
stifled and categorized unpatriotic
to cure and build and create and employ
the backlash all seems idiotic
the residuals of fruits from their labor
would seem something we all should enjoy

so off they go to be paid via the euro
or maybe to that socialist blemish to the north
wherever they land
it would seem to stand
that someone else will benefit from their worth

are you abused by the authority of rank
and are you labeled attitude bad
do you wish not to lead
or worse yet be lead
for fear of having been had

agenda rules most of the day
reward or consequence motivated by fears
irregardless of contribution or worth
and all this for something called pay
benefits include emotional demotions with tears


do as you’re told and smile while doing it
for without rules all you have is anarchy
the sublime and pure supremacy is nothing
without all the glory of authority
and somehow we are supposedly better

so suck it up and do the right thing
do your duty
protect and serve
or breach the layers put before you
dig a little deeper and hit a nerve

did you agree to speak the language of the land
and did you agree to grow up in a cul de sac
and whose fault was that anyway
because then you also didn’t agree to abide by the golden rule
but you did and who’s golden rule was that anyway

did you do as you were told
and if you didn’t what were the consequences
and whose consequences were they anyway
because fear was the motivator
and why were you so afraid

can you forgive those that poisoned you
and do you even realize you are poisoned
because marketeers want your allegiance
and conquerors want your patriotism
and why are you afraid to say no

conscription is subscription and visa versa
because if you play you pay and visa versa
and did you sign up for that
because you let the poison in
and those are things you agreed to

you let them twist your arm
because you assumed they were right
and their cult of personality overwhelmed you
and you took their criticism personal
and it transformed your own word into poison

so now you do not agree to love
and you do not agree to forgive
because you cannot break the cycle
because you are to afraid to try
because what if you are rejected and left alone

fascism dictates compliance and you have done your duty
because you cannot love yourself enough to love others
and you can’t say yes when you want to and no when you don’t
because your dream is lost in theirs
and transformation will exact a price you may not be willing to pay

I was once told that most people don’t care how you make your money
as long as you don’t get caught

When people are fired they get roasted
and it’s not all about the tongue-in-cheek jest
where a supposedly earnest farewell with cake
or at least a Costco death muffin or 12 are served
and it’s not all about congratulations
and kudos on a newly acquired extended summer
and wish we were you
and we’ll miss you
and the such
but instead it’s about fear
and embarrassment about not really being sincere
because what happened to you could happen to anyone
and you are no longer on the team
and if you aren’t with us you are against us
and you must be ostracized
and shunned
because you no longer fit in
and the inner circle of trust has locked you out
and it really is not all about you
because the corporate mindset is at risk if it is
and that’s why you become the lame duck
the one sitting at your desk watching the clock tick away
because the system also punishes people for failing
even though you may not have really failed
just had had enough
and was ready to move on
or philosophies no longer coincided
because the corporation demands loyalty
and subservience until death do you part
and maybe it will be a burden on your heirs in the future
because that confidentiality statement you signed
was also a non-competition agreement
and if it could be construed and manipulated to mean that
then they might as well make your offspring indentured servants
because margins are tight
and competition is fierce
and the Euro and Airbus are kicking our god fearing puckered asses

agendas are at risk
and so is your house and car and life
so do what they want
and vote for what they want when they want
and fear where you tread
and why you tread
for we are at war with the brown nomadic people
and staying the course is foremost
because the course is where we’ve been

and we have to fear the unknown
because that is almost as bad as the brown nomadic people
for they are not anchored

and property rights that are god given
and we know we must fear the invisible man
because ideology soothes wayward biology
and avenging vengeance with battle cry’s toward the opposite
and if we don’t do what they say

because our way of life is at risk
and we must fear risk when we can’t control it
because they can control it with exit polls
and legislate profits with lawyers
but we have to play by their rules
because if we are afraid we’ll buy oodles of things
and that makes us feel safe
and the fear of not feeling safe is something to be afraid of
so lay down that plastic with a great exuberance
and hope we bomb the brown nomadic people
because we need to feel safe
forever…
