and so it’s good to want to belong
but solidarity is not all about being the follower
because it’s about participation
and before you participate you should believe
but what is it you should believe in

because it’s one thing to believe in a vision
and another thing to believe in a visionary
because believing in a visionary is ascension worship
and visionaries have egos
and they are corruptible
and they have publicists and agents
and they don’t take pay cuts
and they require subordinates

but visions can be worked with respect to equality
and they can be served without serving the hierarchy
so beware the priests who define the path

because that stadium you want might get built
and it might be all that you imagined
and it’s state of the art
and it’s new so it won’t fall apart
corporate welfare without the guilt

but we can’t say that
because we are all in this together
and we are rooting for the home team
and the owners may not call this home
and the players live elsewhere during the off season

but we have to have big and new to look like winners
that is the impression
and the tips are great
and the parking is plenty
and it creates jobs for the vendors
that is the perception
and someday we all might afford a ticket
that is the lie

but if we become minimalists and say no
then we are dissenters
and if we revolt
then we are rebels
and if we march
then we are malcontents
and if we retaliate
then we are terrorists

because if we renounce reward versus punishment
then we are socialists
and if we denounce it
then we are treasonous
and if we disallow it
then we are tyrannous

because ascension worship is the western way
and accountability from the bottom up is un-american
